"Fear? Yeah, That's Fear. I KNOW Fear!"

Put yerself in this guy's spot. I've been in fear of death, on a skinny ice bridge, at about 13,500 ft., with a 500 foot or more plunge into an icy pool on the slope goin up the east side of Mt. Lyell.

This seems, somehow, similar.

Close yer eyes, and phookin pray.

Comments:
Surfer Magazine called it TOAD....take off and die. Bumper stickers were issued. The Surfdawg is a poster child for TOAD. He once commented that he didn't know what to do at the bottom of a wave any more. Hadn't seen one in so long.

Zeke reports live from Pillar Point, "Waves three to four guy high. Breaking right there at Boneyard. More people than the County Fair. Roads are packed and people walking from a mile away on Hwy 1. Going to check out the crowd and report back later." --Moon Pie

Gettin back out after a ride at Mav's is often the hardest part, ain't it? I mean, at some point, you just KNOW yer gonna get buried, smeared, and carried all the way back in . . . only to try to get out, once more . . . . till the scooter n towrope come along to haul yer ass out. County workers at Mavericks? Moon Pie? Yer killin me . . . . Moon Pie? Debbie Debbie Cakes? StarChild? Sun Blossom? Petouli Oil? Well, I kinda LIKE petouli oil, still . . . sorta, after all those years . . . so, 4 guys high, about what, 24 foot on the front side top of curl to bottom? Small year it appears. "This is John Cameron, Cameron, Downtown."

Ya measure waves from the back. A 12 foot wave has a 20 to 24 foot face depending on the bottom. They had 10 to 15 with some bigger sets today. One wave I saw on the news had a 40 foot face. Solid twenty feet! Bigger than that at Mavs, it's gets kinda unruly.

Ya, you've posted that measurement thing before. Problem for us amateurs, is sites post info, and we don't know if they mean what YOU say, or, if they speak of the face of the wave in feet tall. So, Auntie Moon Pie sez, 4 guys tall. I say, one guy is 6 foot. That's 24 foot tall, on the face. SF Gate reports 30 foot waves. Has to be from the face, otherwise, if it was the back, it'd be some what, 60 foot on the face? And still, for me, the stunner, is knowin, on the backside, the drop is huge at Mav's, and tends to bruise ribs n such. Incredible, any way you take a yardstick to it. They got good press, it was on my 6pm news here in Sacto!!!! So, who won?
