.DISCUSSION...A COLD UNSTABLE AIRMASS IS CAUSING A FEW SHOWERS ACROSS
THE DISTRICT THIS AFTERNOON. SHOWERS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPING OVER THE
SANTA LUCIA MOUNTAINS OF MONTEREY COUNTY AND MOVING OFF TO THE
NORTHEAST.
SATL IMAGERY INDC THE DEEP UPPER LOW WEST OF BRITISH COLUMBIA. A
STRONG VORT MAX HAS DROPPED DOWN THE BACK OF THE LOW...AND IS
ROUNDING 37/130. PLENTY OF COLD UNSTABLE AIR IS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS
VORT MAX.
ANOTHER COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE DISTRICT LATE TONIGHT AND
FRIDAY MORNING. COLD AIR ASSOCIATED WITH THE SYSTEM WILL KEEP SNOW
LEVELS LOW...AND IN FACT WILL DROP SOME MORE. WITH QPF ABOVE .5
INCHES HAVE ISSUED A SNOW ADVISORY ABOVE 2000 FEET LATE TONIGHT AND
FRIDAY. GOOD POTENTIAL INSTABILITY WILL LEAD TO THE POSSIBILITY OF
THUNDERSTORMS WITH SMALL HAIL. VORT MAX LIFTS NE FRIDAY LEAVING THE
DISTRICT IN A ZONAL FLOW THROUGH SATURDAY.
THE NEXT SYSTEM WILL COME IN AT A LOWER LATITUDE AND COULD HAVE A
TROPICAL TAP. STRONG WINDS COULD DEVELOP SATURDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE
SUNDAY. RAIN WILL DEVELOP LATE SATURDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH
SUNDAY. LOOKS LIKE RAIN COULD BE HEAVY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS
SYSTEM WILL HAVE TO BE WATCHED FOR VERY STRONG WINDS AND POSSIBLE
HYDRO PROBLEMS.
WITH THE UPPER LOW AND LONGWAVE TROF REMAINING ALONG THE COAST
THROUGH AT LEAST MID WEEK VORT LOBES WILL CONTINUE TO ROTATE INLAND.
WITH THESE SYSTEMS BEING COLD...SNOW LEVELS NEXT WEEK COULD ONCE
AGAIN BE AROUND 2000 FEET...IF NOT EVEN LOWER.
&&
.AVIATION...THE EVENING SHIFT PROMISES TO BE A TRICKY ONE ON THE
AVIATION DESK. COLD UPPER LOW ROTATING INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA HAS
A BROAD BAND OF SHOWERS WITH SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS OFFSHORE...
POISED TO MOVE INTO THE NORTH BAY WITHIN THE NEXT 2-3 HOURS.
SHOWERS SHOULD BEGIN TO IMPACT SFO/OAK BY 06Z...WITH SOME LIGHTNING
STRIKES POSSIBLE DUE TO THE INSTABILITY ALOFT. WINDS WILL GENERALLY
BE OUT OF THE SOUTH AT 10-15 KT...BUT WILL VARY TO THE WEST AND
BECOME GUSTY NEAR SHOWERS. ANY SHIFT TO THE WEST AT SFO/OAK THIS
EVENING SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS PERMANENT FOR PLANNING PURPOSES AS THE
LOW CENTER REMAINS OFFSHORE. SFO/OAK/SJC SHOULD EXPECT TO BE ON
SOUTH PLAN FOR MOST OF THE EVENING. CEILINGS WILL GENERALLY STAY
ABOVE 3000 FT...BUT THERE WILL BE DIPS DOWN TO BELOW 2000 FT IN

I love this kind of talk. I got to live this 12 hours a day for 6 years. KMTR is Monterey Weather. FXUS66 is Forecast Discussion for Area 66. It's not just that it's a secret code. It's that we learned how to talk like that from teletype. "VORT MAX" is always in caps. It's the center of the rotation. But it's more than that. It's the most dynamtic part of a fluid's vortex. Dave and I got drunk (well, once, he made me do it) and he was having a hard time with low pressure systems because his head had it stuck on wind. I turned the water on in the bathroom sink showing rotation onto a low pressure area and then I showed an example of a drop pressure by flushing to toilet. The Wind is just a by-product of what the water is doing. Water systems, or molecules grouped together having similar physical characteristics form streams, the pushing of streams against each other create wind. The meeting of bodies of water have always been a strong juju space. River confluences, deltas, canals, capes, horns, pools and ponds. Wubba wubba wubba tropical tap blah blah lovngwave trof whickie whickey woo snow level 2000. And now, a word from our sponsor, the Humboldt County Zoological Society who are here with an exciting offer.

Zeke's too old for sexy weather forcasts. Besides, I'd been drinking. I now heartily recommend Lagunitas IPA. http://www.lagunitas.com/
