So........

As I'm leaving in a week, and am going to be trekkin' around Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar for a month, I had to come up with a way Mom could chill and not freak out. Follow the linky, and I'll post stuff when I can. This is one of the stops on the way to Ted's wedding. Nice thing is, most of the little towns don't have paved roads, and there are elephants walkin' down the street, but you can almost always find a guest house with internet access.

Wow, nice road trip Dave!

We lived in Vientienne, long ago. I doubt the AID/USOM compound we lived in is still there.

We lived in Bangkok, too . . don't recall the name of the street the house was on . .

Big adventure, have fun!

Looking forward to the pics . . . I'm surprised you can GET into Cambodia, and not sure why anyone would WANT to go, seeing's how they are with the military structure . . . a white westerner like you is a target as a 'dissenter'. At least Laos and Thailand have solid tourism trades . . . best of luck!

And congrats NOLA! What a game, they made few if any mistakes and the one turnover cost the Colts a chance of a late minute tie and OT.

Great game!

Looking forward to seeing the trip vicariously, thanks!

Honestly, we're all just waiting for him to finally leave so we can start talking about soemthing else! But, I just don't what I'm gonna do without the endless daily email giberrish, seein as he'll be off-line (hopefully) while over yon. *Hahahahaha* really, we just wanna see "his" pictures....Ha!

I think them Cambodians and Myanmar'ins are gonna like Dave just fine. I'm pretty sure they stopped scalpin blondes across the border at least amonth or two ago...

Safe Travels, & as Surf Dawg would say "write when ya find work"...

Zeke Darlin.

Lots to be aware in them climes.

I'm wishin him well, too.

Cambodia, is NOT a safe place.

I know it's not the 50's and 60's when we lived there.

I do know, from my present studies, what the regions are all about. Where, I once, lived.

I know you hung out south Thai, but hoss, it ain't Laos or Cambodia . . .

To close, ramblin there, where I lived long ago, is now insane.

It ain't Phuket, hoss . . . where he's goin.

Awe phucket anyway! *L* I'm just envious, of course. He'll be fine. I'm just startin to put a travel plan together for later this year, follow Dave's lead and take a month..or more off. Just researching now, but definitely gettin the bug again.

When you comin to the beach to pick anyways hoss? I've been pickin with Randy, Doris, & a fella named Bill who plays great guitar & dobro..fun times. So what do you look like now? What's your name again? Anybody got a beer?

I think Martin' still drooling on the corner of his Superbowl couch...

Ok, so to start, I'm goin' to northern Thailand, Myanmar(Burma), and Laos. Ted goes across the borders all the time, he's less than an hour by motor scooter from the Golden Triangle. As for Cambodia, Ankor Wat gets thousands of tourists every year. Yes, there are places Haoles don't go, but I grew up with that and I can probably figure it out. Our host Tubthump's Wendy's best friend's brother Kevin(I know that's a train to follow but more about that later) lives along the Thai Lao border and runs mountain biking/camping trips down the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Kevin and I have emailed a few times and he says...'Ya gotta stay on the trail 'cuz there's unexploded stuff everywhere still, but the people are great, friendly, and love the bikers and their dollars'. Probably gonna get out to the Plain of Jars while I'm there. Google it. Gotta see where we carpet bombed Laos for years. Other than that, gonna kayak down the Mekhong, go underground at Chiang Dao caves, and hike to 8500 feet at Doi Inthanon National Park(the highest peak in Thailand) before I leave. Larue, Vientienne huh? Nice. How old were you when you lived there? I don't think I'm gonna get that far south, but I wish I could. Gonna spend my time in Laos around Luang Prabang and Luang Nam Tha. I'll try to post as much stuff as I can. Should be fun!

Geez, I MEANT Burma . . . my bad.

Have fun, be safe, post pics!
